The Atlanta Thrashers have recalled forward Brett Sterling from the Chicago Wolves of the American Hockey League, according to Executive Vice President, General Manager and Head Coach Don Waddell.
Sterling, 23, has tallied three points (one goal, two assists) in 11 games over two stints with the Thrashers this season. He made his NHL debut on Oct. 5 vs. the Washington Capitals, recorded his first NHL point (assist) on Oct. 13 vs. New Jersey and scored his first career goal on Oct. 20 at Tampa Bay.
The Los Angeles, Calif. native ranks third on the Wolves with 41 points (23 goals, 18 assists) in 36 games this season, and leads the team and ranks fifth in the AHL in goals. The 5-7, 180-pound left wing has earned a plus-five rating and scored four game-wining goals. He was a starter for Planet USA in the 2008 AHL Star Game, which was played on Jan. 28, and recorded a goal.
Sterling led the AHL with 55 goals during his first professional season in 2006-07 and was honored with the league’s Dudley “Red” Garrett Award as the Rookie of the Year. He was selected by the Thrashers in the fifth round, 145th overall, of the 2003 NHL Entry Draft. |
