HURRICANES ACQUIRE JOE JENSEN FROM PITTSBURGH

David Gove to join Penguins organization

 


RALEIGH, NC-Jim Rutherford, President and General Manager of the National Hockey League's Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that the team has acquired forward Joe Jensen from the Pittsburgh Penguins in exchange for forward David Gove. Jensen will join the Hurricanes' American Hockey League affiliate, the Albany River Rats, for the team's game on Friday against the Syracuse Crunch.

Jensen, 24, has played in 27 games this season with Pittsburgh's AHL affiliate, the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, registering two goals, two assists (4 points) and 23 penalty minutes. Jensen has also played in nine games this season with the Wheeling Nailers of the ECHL, earning seven points (4g, 3a). The Plymouth, MN, native is in his second professional season, and has scored eight goals and earned seven assists (15 points) in 53 career AHL games. He has totaled 15 goals and earned 21 assists (36 points) in 37 career ECHL games.

Jensen played four years of collegiate hockey at St. Cloud State University of the Western Collegiate Hockey Association before turning professional. In 153 career games with the Huskies, Jensen (5'11", 180 lbs.) scored 45 goals, earned 55 assists (100 points) and accumulated 100 penalty minutes. The Penguins drafted Jensen in the eighth round, 232nd overall, in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft.
