SUNRISE, Fla. – Florida Panthers General Manager and Head Coach Jacques Martin announced today that the club has acquired D Magnus Johansson from Chicago in exchange for a seventh round draft pick in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft.
Johansson, 34, is in his rookie season in the NHL. He has appeared in 18 games for the Blackhawks with four points (0-4-4).
“Magnus is a mobile defenseman that knows how to move the puck quickly and join in on the offensive attack,” Martin said. “He will also provide support on our power play.”
The Linkoping, Sweden native spent the past three season playing in the Swedish Elite League for his hometown Linkoping squad where he served as the team’s Captain. In three seasons with Linkoping HC, Johansson played in 149 games, scoring 28 goals and 64 assists. Johansson led Linkoping to the SEL semi-finals in 2006 and the finals in 2007. In 34 career playoff games with Linkoping he has nine goals and four assists. |
