The Atlanta Thrashers have assigned defenseman Karel Pilar (KAH-rehl, PEE-lahsh) to the Chicago Wolves of the American Hockey League, according to Executive Vice President and General Manager Don Waddell. Atlanta now has 28 active players on its training camp roster (please see attachment), including 16 forwards, nine defensemen and three goaltenders, with one player on Injured Reserve.
Pilar, 29, recorded four assists in three preseason games with Atlanta. The 6-3, 210-pound defenseman, who was signed as a free agent by the Thrashers on Aug. 8, is a native of the Czech Republic.
The Thrashers preseason record stands at 3-2-0 after defeating the Nashville Predators 3-2 in a shootout on Tuesday night at Philips Arena. Atlanta opened the preseason with back-to-back wins against the St. Louis Blues and New York Islanders before dropping two straight games to Nashville and St. Louis. The Thrashers travel to Florida tonight (7:30 p.m) for the first game of a home-and-home series against the Panthers. The teams will meet again on Friday night at Philips Arena (7:30 p.m.) to close out the preseason. |
