ABSOLUTE HOCKEY ENTERPRISES ADDS PROMINENT LOCAL LAWYER TO OWNERSHIP GROUP TO PURCHASE TAMPA BAY LIGHTNING
Ownership Group To Include Lifelong Tampa Resident Steve Burton

TAMPA BAY – Absolute Hockey Enterprises has added prominent Tampa attorney Steve Burton as a partner to its new ownership group for the sale of the National Hockey League’s Tampa Bay Lightning, co-chairmen Doug MacLean and Jeff Sherrin announced today.

“We are excited to have someone of Steve’s business talent and background join us,” said Sherrin.  “Steve’s family has been here in Tampa for three generations. He knows the area inside and out and enjoys a wonderful reputation in the community. I’ve been working with Steve’s law firm for the past 20 years and have enormous respect for his reputation as an attorney locally, in the state of Florida and nationwide.”

Burton is managing partner of the Tampa office of Broad and Cassel, a law firm with eight offices throughout Florida. He also serves on the firm’s seven-member Executive Board, which runs it. Burton has practiced law nearly 18 years representing businesses. He has served as lead counsel for a number of Fortune 100 and Fortune 500 companies operating in Florida and the United States.  Burton holds an AV rating with the Martindale Hubbell, a rating denoting the highest accolade an attorney can receive for his legal ability and “adherence to professional standards of conduct, ethics, reliability and diligence.” Only 5 percent of attorneys are awarded this rating. In addition, his fellow attorneys and Florida judges have honored Burton as a “Leading Florida Attorney.” Only approximately 5 percent of Florida lawyers reach this professional pinnacle on the basis of “preeminence in their field of practice.”

“It’s thrilling for me to be a part of this Tampa Bay area treasure,” said Burton. “As a lifelong Bay Area resident I recognize how important the Tampa Bay Lightning is to the community and I look forward to serving the team and my community in this endeavor.”

Burton is active on the board of many Bay Area charities including among others the Shelton Quarles Foundation and the Board of the University Community Hospital Foundation. His previous community service also includes serving two terms on the Board of Trustees for the University of South Florida. He and his wife, Susan, a former public school teacher, were also the driving force behind SUPERKids, a successful tutorial after-school pilot program for at-risk children in Kindergarten through Grade 2 in Hillsborough County.

“Both of my sons are ready to hang up their baseball cleats and learn to skate,” Burton added.
