Nashville, Tenn. (September 12, 2007) – Nashville Predators General Manager David Poile announced today that center Jason Arnott has been named the fourth captain in franchise history while forwards J.P. Dumont and Steve Sullivan will serve as his assistants for the 2007-08 National Hockey League season.
Arnott, 32 (10/11/74), tied for the team lead in goals (27) in 2006-07, his first season with the Predators. The 6-4, 220-pound center has posted more than 20 goals in eight straight seasons and 10 times total in his 13 NHL campaigns. The Collingwood, Ont. native has recorded 698 points (303g-395a) in 892 career games with Edmonton, New Jersey, Dallas and Nashville, advanced to the post-season nine times and played in the Stanley Cup Finals twice, winning the trophy in 2000.
“We signed Jason in the summer of 2006 for his on-ice contributions, but we were also very interested in him for his leadership and experience,” said Poile. “He has been one of the most consistent offensive contributors in the league over the last decade, has won the Stanley Cup and is a commanding and respected presence within our dressing room.”
Dumont, 29 (4/1/78), established career-highs and ranked second on the Predators in assists (45) and points (66) in 2006-07 after spending the previous five seasons with the Buffalo Sabres. The 6-1, 205-pound native of Montreal, Que., who wore the captain’s “C” with Buffalo in January of 2004, led the Predators with four goals and six points (4g-2a) in the 2007 Stanley Cup Playoffs.
Sullivan, 33 (7/6/74), was acquired from Chicago on February 16, 2004 and has averaged over a point per game (62g-96a-158pts in 150 games) as a Nashville Predator. The 5-8, 165-pound native of Timmins, Ont. has posted 20 goals and 60 points in seven straight seasons. Sullivan wore the “A” for Nashville full-time last season.
Tom Fitzgerald was the first captain in Nashville Predators history, wearing the “C” from July 6, 1998-March 13, 2002. Greg Johnson took over as the team’s captain prior to the 2002-03 season and held the role through the end of 2005-06 before Kimmo Timonen was named captain on October 3, 2006. |
