Combining both a sturdy, machine-washable hockey bag with a hockey drying rack, the i-Radd can make scrambling to find your gear a problem of the past.
“Our partner and the original inventor came up with the idea one day in store,” managing partner Art Weingartner said. “He looked at the bag, and he looked at a hockey tree, and said, ‘Why wouldn’t somebody want to put both of them together?’ If you’re drying your equipment, at least get it out of your bag to dry it but still stay with it so the kids don’t lose parts.”
The rack design, which folds the rack bars from the middle of the bag out towards the ends, makes storing your gear simple, as each piece of hockey equipment has its own natural resting place, allowing for an instant inventory check. In addition, Velcro holds the rack inside the bag, allowing the rack to be easily detached for bag washing and/or freestanding equipment drying.
“You’re actually able make more room inside the bag than you’re able to do without it, while the gear stays in place,” Weingartner said.
The i-Radd also has a detachable garment bag to allow for jersey storage, an accessory bag to store smaller items such as keys or cell phones and three stick slots.
The i-Radd is double-stitched on seams and double-reinforced on the corners, allowing for greater durability, and has detachable inline skate wheels at the bottom. According to marketing manager Scott Meisner, the rack design also had other unintended benefits.
“The rack inside the bag actually keeps its strength, whereas a lot of the other bags fall in the center and drag along the ground with the wheels. Ours is structurally supported along the bag, so although that wasn’t the intent as far as the rack, it’s a huge benefit to the rack itself as far as structurally.”
The company has also posted video on YouTube detailing the bag’s features and how to assemble the drying rack and detach the wheels.
“People have a hard time grasping exactly what it is until they see it,” Meisner says. “When they finally lay their eyes on this thing, and see and feel what you’re actually getting for your buck, people really love it.”
The i-Radd junior is $109.95, while the adult and goalie models are $129.98 each.
