Richmond Renegades Coach Brophy Released

RICHMOND, Va. — Richmond Renegades President and General Manager Allan B. Harvie, Jr. announced recently that he has released Coach John Brophy from his duties as head coach with the Richmond Renegades effective immediately.

“John came here to get this expansion franchise off the ground and get us kick started. He certainly did that plus he also gave us excellent credibility with the fans, players and other league members. In my opinion John also added additional credibility to the young SPHL.

Coach Brophy and the players had a great first half putting on an outstanding effort getting us to first place. But the second half of the season was the exact opposite of the first and Coach Brophy and the players couldn’t get it turned around. We did make it to the playoffs, which was our goal. But we lost 14 of our last 20 regular season games and only won the first playoff game after which we were outscored 14-4.”

The Renegades have made no announcement about who will coach the team for the upcoming season but have indicated that a search will be started right away.

“John is a very dear friend. That made this decision extremely difficult,” noted Harvie. “You can’t replace him because you can’t replace a legend.”
