Riverkings Help Out With Horn Lake Blood Drive
By Vicki Wahl

SOUTHAVEN, Miss. — Thursday, February 8, the City of Horn Lake hosted the first ever citywide blood drive for the Mid-South chapter of the American Red Cross. This blood drive is being used as a template for future Mid-South and National citywide blood drives.

“We were very excited to be involved with the city of Horn Lake and the Mid-South chapter of the American Red Cross,” said Jody O’Donnell, Director if Ticket Sales for the Memphis RiverKings.

The RiverKings made buy one, get one free tickets available to everyone who donated or attempted to donate to this worthy cause.

“One of the most important aspects of our organization is to be community oriented; this event was the epitome of that,” continued O’Donnell.

The blood drive was very successful collecting 83 units from donors at three various locations. Donors were able to stop by Horn Lake City Hall, MR Dye Library, or Harley Davidson on Goodman Road to contribute.

Horn Lake Mayor Nat Baker was the first to roll up his sleeve and donate Thursday morning. Mayor Baker also set a standard for citywide blood drives by authorizing free transportation to any donor site for Horn Lake residents with no transportation.

“Over 100 donors presented,” said Carson Culver, representative from MR Dye Library. “Though we fell just short of our goal of 90 collected units, the drive was a major success in helping those in need within our area.”
