FORT COLLINS, Colorado – The defending CHL President’s Cup Champion Laredo Bucks fell 6-2 to the Colorado Eagles in Game Two of the President’s Cup Finals on Sunday night at the Budweiser Events Center in front of 5,289 fans.
The Bucks trail the Eagles 2-0 in the best of seven series, but the scene shifts back to Laredo. The Bucks will host Games Three, Four and Five this Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday at the LEC. Laredo struck quickly as forward Igor Pohanka slipped a nice backdoor pass to forward Jeff Bes just 1:29 into the game. It was the 14th of the post-season for Bes, tying him for the CHL playoff lead.
The Eagles came back and tied the game as forward Greg Pankewicz swept in a rebound at 4:55. Colorado then took the lead when defenseman Aaron Schneekloth put home a rebound tally on a power play at 12:02.
The Eagles absolutely dominated the second period of play. Forward Seth Leonard scored on a wrist shot short side from the bottom of the right circle at 2:48 to make it 3-1. Then Pankewicz got loose on a breakaway and wristed it home top shelf glove side at 5:32.
Colorado wasn’t done as Schneekloth scored for the second time in the game at 8:16 with a delayed penalty coming up making it 5-1 Eagles with their fifth unanswered goal. Later in the period the Bucks had 1:19 of a two man advantage, but failed to capitalize.
In the third period forward Steve Haddon scored on a rebound of his own shot at 10:41 to make it 6-1 Colorado. Late in the game Laredo forward Neil Clark scored on a rebound at 18:45 for his sixth of the playoffs to complete the scoring.
Eric Marvin allowed six goals on 38 shots in 60:00 and fell to 7-3. Marco Emond stopped 29 of 31 shots and improved to 9-4 in 60:00. Laredo was 0-6 on the power play, while the Eagles were 1-4. Colorado out shot the Bucks 38-31.

Bucks Fall 5-2 To Colorado In Game One

Colorado completely dominated the opening seven minutes of the game, out shooting Laredo 5-0, but the Bucks kept the game scoreless behind some terrific work by goalie Eric Marvin. After stopping a pair of Eagles power play chances Laredo went on a man advantage chance of their own.
Forward Michael Swift snapped a shot from the bottom of the right circle that was stopped, but defenseman Serge Dube hopped on the rebound and slipped it home at 9:33 for his first goal of the playoffs. The Eagles again went on the power play, but forward Jeff Bes stole the puck and streaked in to score on the breakaway with a nifty backhander feathered five hole at 13:53 for a 2-0 Laredo lead. It was the 13th of the post-season for Bes.
The Eagles came out smoking to start the second period. Forward Greg Pankewicz ripped home a big blast from the high point on a power play 45 seconds into the period. Just 39 seconds later forward Ed McGrane scored on a wraparound to tie the game at 2-2. At 11:10 defenseman Aaron Schneekloth snapped in a wrister from the right circle to give Colorado their first lead of the night 3-2.
In the third period the Eagles extended their lead to 4-2 as forward Seth Leonard scored on a shot from the top of the right circle that deflected off the stick of a Bucks defenseman at 4:15. Pankewicz then sealed the win with an empty netter at 19:47.
Marvin allowed four goals on 32 shots and fell to 7-2 in 59:00 of work. Marco Emond stopped 20 of 22 shots in 60:00 and improved to 8-4. The Bucks were 1-5 on the power play while Colorado went 1-6. The Eagles out shot the Bucks 33-22.
