RiverKings Come Home After Split In Colorado

SOUTHAVEN, MS — Beginning Wednesday night, the Memphis RiverKings will look to put to good use the home ice advantage that they grabbed control of this past weekend in the Northern Conference Finals.  With their spilt of games one and two, the RiverKings and Colorado Eagles are tied at a win apiece entering game three at the DeSoto Civic Center Wednesday at 7:05.  Games four and five are also set for the DCC on Friday and Saturday.

For the third time this postseason, and for the ninth straight time going back to 2002, the RiverKings began a series with a game one victory on Friday.  The RiverKings battled back from deficits of 1-0 and 2-1 to force overtime.  Jason Sessa scored 2:54 into the overtime and Larry Sterling stopped 37 Eagles shots, giving the RiverKings their fourth straight playoff road win and a 1-0 lead in the series.

In game two on Sunday in Loveland, CO, the RiverKings jumped ahead of the Eagles, a team that lost just four games at home during the regular season, 2-0 early in the second period.  The home team then scored four straight, including an empty netter, to even the series with a 4-2 win.

These teams are playing for the first time ever in the playoffs, so Wednesday’s game will be the first postseason visit to the DCC for the Eagles.  All-time in the regular season the RiverKings are 4-2-1 at home versus Colorado.  In their lone meeting at the DCC this season on January 12, the RiverKings jumped out 5-1 and held on for a 5-4 win.
