Rosemont, IL--It was déjà vu all over again for the Admirals on Sunday afternoon in their 4-1 loss to the Chicago Wolves. For the fourth straight game against their West Division rival, including game one of their current playoff series, Milwaukee fell behind early and, despite increased pressure in the third period, found the deficit too much to overcome.
Former Admiral Darren Haydar got the Wolves on the board at the 6:12 mark of the first when he led the Wolves into the Admirals zone on a two-on-one rush. Admirals defenseman Nolan Yonkman slid to prevent the pass, but he inadvertently slid into Admirals netminder Pekka Rinne and Haydar had more than enough room to fire the puck into the back of the net.
Matt Anderson made it 2-0 Wolves at 11:22 of the first when he gathered a rebound that Rinne was unable to control and scored his first professional goal.
The Wolves would score the only goal of the second stanza Brett Sterling picked up his third tally in the series with 4:56 to play in the third period, with Haydar and Jason Krog picking up the assists.
The Admirals would finally get on the board at the 9:47 mark of the third when Rich Peverley stopped a Cclearing attempt by the Wolves and the puck went right to Pat Leahy who skated in two-on-none with Jason Guerriero on Chicago goalie Michael Garnett. Leahy passed it to Guerriero, who had an open net on the right post and scored his first goal of the playoffs.
Rinne was pulled for an extra attacker with over two minutes to play in the game and had a number of good chances, but the game was put out of reach when Cory Larose scored an empty netter with 36 seconds left in the contest.
The series will now return to Milwaukee for games three and four on Tuesday, April 24th and Wednesday, April 25th. Both games will be at the Bradley Center and start at 7:00 pm. For tickets fans can call Ticketmaster at (414) 276-4545 or online at www.ticketmaster.com.
