Sea Wolves’ Return, Katrina Masks Are Welcomed Diversions

By Jim Davis

Jo Richardson, whose home was leveled along with 49 others when Hurricane Katrina swept 24 feet of floodwater into their subdivision just north of Biloxi, is all about the return of the Mississippi Sea Wolves and Chris Birch’s “Masks of Mississippi” and “Fans4Fans” projects.

“I was one that lost everything,” she said from the damaged St. Martin, Miss., house that she and her husband, a U.S. Air Force retiree, bought and are repairing from the roof down. The Richardsons not only lost their home but also a truck, a camper, a custom workshop and a gun collection.

“That (the mask and poster projects) sounds like a wonderful idea. We need something to get our minds off rebuilding and everything. Hockey is a good outlet. You can holler and scream and forget about all the work on the house you wanted to get done that night.”
Jo, who says she has attended every Sea Wolves home game in the club’s nine seasons and quite a few road contests as well, has purchased season tickets for the first time. “To be able to look forward to those games again is a wonderful thing,” she said.
