Stars Recall Junior Lessard From Iowa Under Emergency Conditions

FRISCO, Tex. – Dallas Stars General Manager Doug Armstrong announced today that the club has recalled right wing Junior Lessard from the Iowa Stars, Dallas’ primary development affiliate in the American Hockey League (AHL).

Lessard, 26, has appeared in 51 games with Iowa this season, collecting 21 goals and 20 assists for 41 points with 10 power play goals. He leads Iowa in goals and power play goals and ranks second in points. The 6-0, 200-pound right wing has registered four multi-goal games this season with Iowa.

During the 2005-06 season with Iowa, Lessard netted 26 goals and 32 assists for 58 points with eight power play goals and a +4 rating. Among team leaders, he ranked second in assists, tied for second in goals, third in points and third in power play goals. In five games with the Stars in ’05-06, he notched his first career NHL goal on Nov. 7, 2005 vs. Edmonton.

In 2004-05 with the Houston Aeros (AHL), Lessard posted 22 points (11-11-22) with 25 penalty minutes. He originally signed with Dallas as a free agent on April 15, 2004.

The St. Joseph de Beauce, Quebec, native won the 2004 Hobey Baker Memorial Award as the nation’s top collegiate player after scoring 63 points (32-31-63) in 45 games for Minnesota-Duluth. As a senior at UMD in 2004, he led the school to its first Frozen Four appearance since 1985, and was the national leader in both goals and points. He was selected to the American Hockey Association first team, the All-America first team and was named both the uscho.com and insidecollegehockey.com National Player of the Year. In 160 games as a collegian, he recorded 74 goals and 68 assists for 142 points.
