RALEIGH, NC-Jim Rutherford, President and General Manager of the National Hockey League's Carolina Hurricanes, announced today that the team has acquired defenseman Dennis Seidenberg (ZIGH-dehn-buhrg) from the Phoenix Coyotes in exchange for forward Kevyn Adams.
"With some uncertainly concerning when our injured defensemen will be able to return, we needed to make this move now," Rutherford said. "Dennis will be a good fit for us on defense. We thank Kevyn for his good service during his years in Carolina."
Seidenberg, 25, is currently in his fourth NHL season, and has one goal and one assist in 32 games with the Coyotes this season. The Schwenningen, Germany, native was drafted by the Philadelphia Flyers in the sixth round (172nd overall) of the 2001 NHL Entry Draft, and has notched 33 points (8g, 25a) and 56 penalty minutes in 158 career NHL games with Philadelphia and Phoenix. |

Seidenberg has totaled 71 points (25g, 46a) in 131 career American Hockey League (AHL) with the Philadelphia Phantoms, and helped to lead the Phantoms to the Calder Cup championship in 2005. He represented Germany at the Winter Olympic Games in 2002 in Salt Lake City and 2006 in Torino, Italy, as well as the 2004 World Cup of Hockey. Kevyn Adams was acquired by Carolina on Jan. 16, 2002 along with Bret Hedican and Tomas Malec in exchange for Sandis Ozolinsh and Byron Ritchie. In 300 games with the Hurricanes, he totaled 38 goals and 34 assists (72 points) and 167 penalty minutes. An alternate captain for the team during the 2005-06 and 2006-07 seasons, Adams registered one goal and 18 penalty minutes in 48 career playoffs games with Carolina. |
